1st campaign

Name of the campaign:
Zero Waste Sorting Game

A brief description of the campaign:
The Zero Waste Sorting Game is an 6-week campaign to encourage responsible sorting of materials found at CSU. The goal is to play the drag and drop style game and appropriately dispose of materials in recycling, electronic-waste, composting and landfill bins. By participating, residents receive a reusable stainless steel straw. Driven by our peer to peer sustainability program, Eco Leaders host this Zero Waste Sorting Game in the residence halls and Aggie Village university apartments. This program is primarily directed to residents and students, however the game is accessible for anyone to play on our public housing website. In the past, CSU also participated in the national competition Campus Race to Zero Waste by submitting the university's overall diversion rates. CSU plans to reenter the competition in Fall 2022.

In addition to the Zero Waste Sorting Game, the Zero Waste Team engages the CSU community by attending athletics games including football, volleyball and basketball and sort visitor's waste materials into compost, recycling, and landfill bins. The Zero Waste Team will also assist and attend any events the CSU community has to offer to help with waste diversion.

The Associated Students of CSU (ASCSU) have an Environmental Affairs position that has successfully launched thin-film recycling at the Lory Student Center, implemented a textile recycling program on campus, and created a new department in 2019 specifically for waste diversion to continue discussions and actions surrounding waste diversion.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:
The Zero Waste Sorting Game was played by over 1,000 student residents during the 2021 - 2022 academic year.

The Zero Waste Team comprises of 40 student volunteers, and waste sorted at every home football and volleyball game, or 6 and 14 games in Canvas Stadium and Moby Arena, respectively for thousands of guests in the 2021-2022 academic year.

Name of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Ram's Ride Right

A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):
CSU's Campus Bicycle Advisory Committee continued its "Rams Ride Right" program in coordination with CSU Police during the 21-22 school year to encourage and reinforce positive and lawful biking behavior. Volunteers were stationed at key safety hotspots around campus to reward students who were "caught riding right" with prizes of $5 RamCash, paired with education about safe riding practices. Students and staff/faculty are engaged through this program.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):
In Fall 2021, Rams Ride Right held 28 events at 13 hotspot locations, three days a week, between the first week of school and the end of October. These events distributed a total of $6,095 in cash prizes and resulted in 4,040 individual interactions with campus community members.

Optional Fields

A brief description of other sustainability-related outreach campaigns:
The Sustainable Living Challenge is a campaign through CSU's Apartments that engages the residents on choices they can make in their day to day lives to live in a healthier home. The residents fill out a pledge form on which behavior changes they are willing to commit to and by doing so will enable them to receive sustainable prizes. This program was started in Spring 2020. On average, this program has engaged over 11% of the apartment population with this campaign. The populations include students (undergraduates and graduates), staff/faculty and families.
