A brief description of the institution’s third party certified land holdings:
CSU is a certified Bee Campus USA as of April 2018. A student contacted the President's Office concerned about the impact of dandelion removal on local bee populations so the Pollinator Friendly Campus Committee was formed as a subcommittee of the President's Sustainability Commission and worked hard to support local habitats for bees around campus. This project is part of the larger goal to transform campus into a living laboratory for students and visitors. As part of certification, there are now several student-managed bee hives on campus as well as pollinator-friendly gardens and plants across campus. CSU is also a certified Tree Campus USA since 2012. The University has retained this designation by continuing to meet Tree Campus USA’s standards which include having a campus tree-care plan, providing student service-learning project opportunities, and engaging the community in conversations about urban tree care. CSU has more than 4,500 trees and many diverse species planted on main campus alone. Each spring during Earth Week CSU hosts a Tree Campus USA celebration to engage student organizations in planting trees on campus. Information from: https://source.colostate.edu/best-tree-campus-usa/
CSU holds a Level 3 ArbNet Accreditation, maintaining approximately 10,000 trees spread over Main, South and Foothills Campus. The Campus Arboretum, on CSU Main Campus, is an excellent example of CSU’s dedication to trees and living laboratories.
