Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Moby Geoexchange Project

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
In 2020, Colorado State installed one of the largest geoexchange systems west of the Mississippi (geoexchange is also known as ground source heat pump). The system utilizes 342 wells (550 feet deep) to provide condenser water to heat pumps that provide the heating and cooling for the Moby Athletics Complex (>375,000 GSF). Since the system was installed, total energy use at the site has been reduced by over 50%. In addition, since the heat pumps use electricity not natural gas (heating used to be provided by natural gas), and the university and local utility have pledged to 100% renewable electricity by 2030, the Moby Complex is on an accelerated path to net zero carbon.
