A brief description of the student group, including its activities:
Sustainable Concordia is an organization that strives to create a culture of sustainability at Concordia, and thereby improve our university community by making Concordia an ecologically aware, economically responsible and socially equitable institution. By encouraging communication within the campus community, we act as a nexus to identify, assess and address challenges of sustainable development faced by the Concordia community, as a community. Initiatives: At Allégo, we aim to make it effortless, secure, and safe to walk, bike, use public-transit or ride-share to Concordia. Student Ambassadors Program: A sustainable ambassador is a member of Concordia's staff or faculty who strives to promote and encourage sustainable actions and attitudes in the workplace by leadership and example. CCSA: The Concordia Campus Sustainability Assessment is at the core of Sustainable Concordia's work. The Assessment provides an understanding of the university's research, academics, operations and community, identifying obstacles and opportunities for sustainable development on campus. The Concordia Greenhouse Project is based in the rooftop greenhouse of the Hall building where we have created an all-organic space geared towards education and research into urban sustainability, community building and food security. R4: The mission of R4 is to promote Concordia community engagement in environmental stewardship on campus, through re-thinking of our daily waste output and through initiatives, reducing, reusing and recycling. The Sustainability Action Fund is funded by a 25-cent per-credit student fee levy and totals approximately $150,000 per year. These monies go to support sustainable infrastructure, student-driven projects and inspire a culture of sustainability at Concordia.
