A brief description of the snow and ice removal program, policy, or practice:
Facilities Management has installed a small salt distribution bucket on the back of the John Deere Gator. This has reduced the amount of salt used by roughly 20 per cent. Rubbermaid containers are placed at strategic locations in front of building entrances. In roughly 80 per cent of the containers, only organic salt is used, with saw dust and wood chips spread on paved areas. The saw dust and wood chips are from Facilities Operations carpenters, when they perform their tasks they accumulate the saw dust and wood chips in barrels which is later spread by the Grounds crew.
