A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:
Data comes from the 2019 Concordia Commuter Habit Survey designed as a joint effort between the Institutional Planning & Analysis Office and the Office of Sustainability.
The 2019 Concordia Commuter Habit Survey was gathered online through the internal Concordia University network of the Institutional Planning Office. A representative sample of students, faculty, and staff were invited to participate by email with a response rate of 11.3%. The margin of error was established at ± 2.2% at the 95% confidence interval. The survey was designed based on previous iterations of the Commuter Habit Survey at Concordia. The information was collected during the 2019 Fall semester over 2 consecutive weeks; it was launched on September 11, 2019 and closed on September 22, 2019. Two reminders were sent on September 16 and 20.
Table 5. Modal Share Spring / Fall 2019 in the Commuter Habit Summary Report (page 3) was used to calculate the percentages in this credit. A weighted average for each campus was used to estimate the percentage of students and faculty/staff using different modes for transportation. The weighted average was calculated using reports from the Office of Institutional Planning & Analysis to determine the primary campus of students and faculty/staff.

For the question concerning the percentage of employees/students that commute using a zero-emissions vehicle as their primary mode of transportation, our survey did not specify zero-emissions but rather hybrid/electric vehicles.
