Does the institution offer housing options to accomodate the special needs of transgender and transitioning students (either as a matter of policy or as standard practice)?:
Yes
None
A brief description of the program, policy, or practice:
Housing options to accommodate the special needs of transgender and transitioning students is offered in a limited manner to first-year students. If a student inquires about a housing arrangement that supports his/her needs, the staff in the housing office will work with that person to try and identify a satisfactory arrangement (i.e. pair up with roommate of choice, preassign to a private room and/or have access to a private bathroom).
For upper-level students, those who participate in their respective hall/house continued occupancy process, the themed-living house room selection process or the university-owned cooperative house room selection process can live with a group of students of their choice - no matter the gender. There is no cap on how many rooms or suites for this type of accommodation.
These accommodations and offerings are in the spirit of Student Assembly (SA) Resolution 12. Of note, the University is still looking to implement better processes for upper level students.
