A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory:

Cornell University looks to the Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability to identify and advance innovative sustainability research and initiatives at Cornell that are interdisciplinary in nature - bringing together researchers from across colleges, as well as collaborators from external organizations and communities. The Atkinson Center has 688 Faculty Fellows, researchers across all colleges at Cornell, whose work is related to sustainability. The Faculty Fellows Browser can be viewed here: https://fellows.atkinson.cornell.edu/#paging:number=6|paging:currentPage=0 (The Browser may be searched by research topic or organization.)

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:

Cornell Atkinson offers funding opportunities for faculty, postdocs, graduate students, professional students, and undergraduate students working in the area of sustainability. The full list of grants can be viewed here: http://www.atkinson.cornell.edu/grants

Notes for updated list (STARSFacultyFellowData2023), uploaded here 4/12/24:

We revised the list by removing duplicate entries and off campus departments, to more accurately reflect departments on Cornell's campus where sustainability-related research is conducted.

This is the reason for the reduction in the department count from 105 to 59; it does not reflect a reduction in the actual amount of departments on Cornell's campus where sustainability-related research takes place.
