A brief description of the incentive program(s):
Dallas College is working to incorporate the 17 Sustainable Development Goals into the thematic core objectives of the college.
Dallas College offers incentives for faculty and other academic staff in the form of a stipend. Stipends are awarded by a competitive application process and include sustainability topics as a component. Stipends can include but are not limited to:
- Presenting at a conference or professional event
- Participating in professional development or training
- Travel to attend an academic conference or meeting
- Sabbatical project for eligible faculty for up to one year
- Piloting a new course or activity for extra service
- Fellowship for specific programs
- And other opportunities

Some highlights of the positive outcomes for faculty and other academic staff who were awarded stipends include:
1 - Dallas College Sustainability offers professional development training for faculty to explore integrating social justice and sustainability across the curriculum. Since 2019, approximately 20 faculty and 14 staff have participated in the training and have implemented social justice and sustainability framework into existing assignments and coursework.
2 - Professor of Microbiology Maria Serra was awarded a stipend to explore integrating sustainability topics across microbiology courses. Professor Serra joined the Sustainability Scholars Program and also launched a new study abroad program, Environmental Field Studies in the Galapagos Islands. https://www.dallascollege.edu/resources/global-education/study-abroad/pages/trips.aspx
3 - Professor of Logistics & Supply Chain Management Michael Gallaway received a stiped to integrate sustainability into an existing introduction course and this led to creating a new special topics course in LMGT 1370: Sustainable Logistics. https://www.dallascollege.edu/cd/credit/logistics/pages/degrees-cert.aspx
4 - Dallas College Global Citizenship Program awarded 4 cohorts of 46 students and 5 cohorts of 49 employees fellowships to participate in the Global Citizenship Seminars in Germany and Austria. Participants explore topics of globalization, refugees, social justice, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Results include integrating globalization and sustainability across curricular and co-curricular programs such as guest speaker events, special topic courses, student clubs and professional development for all employees. For example, one cohort of Dallas College Global Citizenship Fellows launched the Studies in Cultural Diversity Program at Richland. https://www.dallascollege.edu/resources/centers/diversity-inclusion/pages/rlc.aspx. 5 - Dallas College Honors Program faculty receive specialized professional training opportunities: New-to-Honors Faculty Workshops, Mid-Semester Honors Faculty Workshops; Professional development/travel opportunities: Travel to National Collegiate Honors Council Conferences (NCHC) and Study Abroad. Faculty members have traveled to Denver, Seattle, Boston, and New Orleans (NCHC), and to London, Paris, and Amsterdam (2016); Ireland, Wales, and England (2019); and Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and Paris (delayed from 2020 and now planned for 2022); and Lower enrollment minimums for courses.
