A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
Dallas College is not currently offering on-campus orientation due to COVID-19. Before the pandemic, student orientation includes an overview of student clubs and organizations including the environmental and sustainability clubs. Campus tours have included an overview of campus sustainability features such as recycling, trees, community garden, pollinator gardens, multi-cultural center, equity and inclusion center, international center, and other sustainability-inclusive resources for students.
New Dallas College students have access to our first online Dallas College New Student Orientation (NSO) that launched on June 1, 2021. The new online NSO platform has been designed to help first time in college students transition to higher education and begin their journey at any of our seven Dallas College campuses by increasing their knowledge about getting started, student rights, and Dallas College resources.
In Part 1 of student orientation, students can click on the campuses they attend classes, and these campus web pages highlight the campus-based sustainability initiatives, such as community gardens, equity and inclusion centers, and sustainability studies programs, and also link to the main Office of Sustainability web page.
In Part 5 of student orientation, students learn about the public transit program DART GoPass, emergency aid funding to support student needs, campus food pantries, and campus multicultural events and student clubs.
