Dallas College utilizes the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) definition for Continuing Education outlined in Texas Administrative Code Title 19, Part 1, Chapter 4, Subchapter P, Rule 4.257:
A Continuing Education Course is a non-credit higher education technical course offered for continuing education units, has specific occupational and/or apprenticeship training objectives, and provides a quick and flexible response to business, industry, and student needs for intensive preparatory, supplemental, or upgrade training and education. One Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is awarded by completion of ten contact hours of participation in an organized educational experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction and not offered for academic credit. Many students who enroll in CE courses would also like to transfer into a traditional academic program, and so Dallas College is working on CE-to-Credit pathways to help meet student success needs and local workforce needs.
