Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions

Gross GHG emissions

Gross Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions:
Performance year Baseline year
Gross Scope 1 GHG emissions from stationary combustion 12,708.03 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 12,708.03 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Gross Scope 1 GHG emissions from other sources 12,327.18 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 12,327.18 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Gross Scope 2 GHG emissions from imported electricity 31,499.15 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 31,499.15 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Gross Scope 2 GHG emissions from imported thermal energy 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Total 56,534.36 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 56,534.36 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Carbon sinks

Figures needed to determine net carbon sinks:
Performance year Baseline year
Third-party verified carbon offsets purchased 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Institution-catalyzed carbon offsets generated 101.46 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 101.46 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Carbon storage from on-site composting 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Carbon storage from non-additional sequestration 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent ---
Carbon sold or transferred 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 0 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent
Net carbon sinks 101.46 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 101.46 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

If total performance year carbon sinks are greater than zero, provide:

A brief description of the carbon sinks, including vendor, project source, verification program and contract timeframes (as applicable):
Carbon sinks were determined at one location, Dallas College Richland Campus, by the Texas Trees Foundation with support by Alliance Data and the North Central Texas Council of Governments.

The amount of carbon sequestered is reported as the local offset for a carbon sink of trees on the Richland Campus, LeCroy Center, and the Tree Farm Education Center.

The net benefits of the trees on the Richland Campus are:
- Stormwater Monetary Benefit: $14,967
- Runoff Prevention: 2,111,190 gallons
- Energy Savings by Shading: $10,134, 145,729 kWh
- Air Quality Monetary Benefit: $2,559
- Pollution Removed: 1,698 lbs
- Carbon Monetary Benefit: $1,484
- Carbon Stored: 313,809 lbs
- Carbon Sequestered: 202,923 lbs
- Carbon Avoided: 139,094 lbs

Adjusted net GHG emissions

Adjusted net Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions:
Performance year Baseline year
Adjusted net GHG emissions 56,432.90 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 56,432.90 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Performance and baseline periods

Start and end dates of the performance year and baseline year (or three-year periods):
Performance year Baseline year
Start date Sept. 1, 2018 Sept. 1, 2018
End date Aug. 31, 2019 Aug. 31, 2019

A brief description of when and why the GHG emissions baseline was adopted:
The baseline year of FY2007-08 was the first year some of the campuses started reporting greenhouse emissions. However, the emissions inventories were conducted independently and varied widely. Therefore, this baseline year FY2018-19 is the first comprehensive greenhouse gas emissions report of Dallas College.

Part 1. Reduction in GHG emissions per person

Weighted campus users

Figures needed to determine “Weighted Campus Users”:
Performance year Baseline year
Number of students resident on-site 0 0
Number of employees resident on-site 0 0
Number of other individuals resident on-site 0 0
Total full-time equivalent student enrollment 50,451 0
Full-time equivalent of employees 4,810 0
Full-time equivalent of students enrolled exclusively in distance education 19,838 0
Weighted Campus Users 26,567.25 0

Metrics used in scoring for Part 1

Adjusted net Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions per weighted campus user:
Performance year Baseline year
Adjusted net Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions per weighted campus user 2.12 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 56,432.90 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Percentage reduction in adjusted net Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions per weighted campus user from baseline:
100.00

Part 2. GHG emissions per unit of floor area

Performance year floor area

Gross floor area of building space, performance year:
4,906,241 Gross square feet

Floor area of energy intensive building space, performance year:
Floor area
Laboratory space 692,503 Square feet
Healthcare space 21,079 Square feet
Other energy intensive space 344,843 Square feet

EUI-adjusted floor area, performance year:
6,678,248 Gross square feet

Metric used in scoring for Part 2

Adjusted net Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions per unit of EUI-adjusted floor area, performance year:
0.01 MtCO2e per square foot
