Sustainable Dallas College - Education

A brief description of the institution’s featured program, initiative, or accomplishment:
Dallas College adopted the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a framework for teaching our students, employees and community members about sustainability. We emphasize SDGs that directly align with our Board of Trustees' priorities, including: quality education, decent work and economic growth, reduced income inequalities, zero hunger and good health and well being. Educational initiatives include:

- Reframing the Curriculum: Design for Social Justice and Sustainability faculty training program
- Spatial (GIS) sustainability instructional resources for students, faculty, employees and community members (50+)
- Special topic workshops for employee sustainability training
- Working to incorporate the 17 SDGs into faculty thematic core objectives
- Development of UN Sustainable Development Goals Video Series featuring Dallas business leaders
- Use of existing successful sustainbility education programs such as: Project Drawdown, Regeneration, Climate Interactive, Climate Reality, etc.
- Weekly, free Sustainable U webinars about various sustainability topics for students, faculty, employees and community members

Dallas College's sustainability operations area focuses on sustainability assessment and reporting across all divisions and departments of the college. Dallas College uses AASHE-STARS and UN SDG Action Manager to track progress on the journey to sustainability.
