Name of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Elimination of Water Bottles on Campus

A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Douglas College eliminated the sale of bottled water on all its campuses in September 2019, which was strongly supported by 92 percent of the College community who completed our Food Services Survey in January 2019.

The College undertook the initiative because it helped reduce the cost involved in recycling single-use plastics, as well as the fact that the manufacture and distribution of bottled water consumes precious resources and contributes to the emission of greenhouse gases.

To support the initiative, five additional refill stations were added at the campuses and another seven were added by the end of 2019. Since then, even more stations have been added throughout all major campuses including New Westminster, Anvil Office Tower and Coquitlam.

A campaign targeting both employees and students encouraged the use of reusable water bottles and was distributed through social media, website, posters and the intranet.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Since the campaign and as of the end of 2021, Douglas College has saved the following number of water bottles:
- New Westminster campus: 1,653,438 bottles
- Anvil Tower: 90,815 bottles
- Coquitlam Campus: 390,542 bottles

A brief description of other sustainability-related outreach campaigns:
In February 2020, the Douglas Students’ Union signed on to the Moose Hide Campaign. This College's Indigenous Students Society signed on to the Moose Hide Campaign in 2021.

The Moose Hide Campaign is a grassroots movement of Indigenous and non-Indigenous men and boys who are standing up against violence towards women and children.

Wearing this moose hide signifies your commitment to honour, respect, and protect the women and children in your life and to work together to end violence against women and children.

Goals:
The goal of the campaign is to end violence towards women and children. To help achieve this, the Moose Hide Campaign will distribute 10 Million Moose Hide squares across Canada.

We will stand up with women and children and we will speak out against violence towards them.
- We will support each other as men and we will hold each other accountable.
- We will teach our young boys about the true meaning of love and respect, and we will be healthy role models for them.
- We will heal ourselves as men and we will support our brothers on their healing journey.
- We encourage you to Take Action, Make the pledge, and Stand up to end violence towards women and children.

The College also supports the “Let’s DO Respect” campaign. the Let's DO Respect is a campaign initiated by Student Life and the Office for Student Support and Conduct. Together, they can create and maintain a respectful, inclusive environment where students understand and promote consent. Where all members of the Douglas community work to end sexual violence, racism, homophobia and transphobia. Where all students, faculty and staff embrace inclusion, diversity, dignity and respect.
