A brief description of the institution’s green infrastructure and LID practices:
Duquesne University's Facilities Department works to employ best management practices for stormwater management to promote the University as a leader in innovation and sustainable practices. This includes: managing precipitation on site to minimize avoid additional stresses on existing stormwater infrastructure, designing to minimize impervious surfaces, utilizing permeable materials for new hard surfaces, using on-site landscape areas to accept water runoff from hard surfaces and as an opportunity to recharge groundwater and reduce pollutant loads, prioritizing using vegetated channels, using stormwater planters in place of traditional tree pits, using rainwater harvesting systems to reduce precipitation runoff volume and rates, and using appropriate plant species.
