Through Durham College's Sustainability Committee, which has representation from all areas of the college (including students), a plan was developed using S.M.A.R.T. characteristics.

Five main goals were carefully selected and were scrutinized using S.M.A.R.T. characteristics. These goals were then supported with up to 5 tactics in order to ensure completion of the goal.

Goals are actively assigned to members of the committee or sub-committees are formed with non-committee members. These committees are responsible for completing goals in a timely manner. All committee goals have been given deadlines and have been developed using S.M.A.R.T. characteristics.
