The college used an anonymous survey to gather data and evaluate employee satisfaction and engagement. Manager/ leader one-on-one meetings are also used to gather data from staff.

Through the 2014 survey our employees identified a number of themes that provide opportunities for improving employee engagement at Durham College. The three main themes are employee communications, employee development and team development. The following outlines the actions that have been taken to address these identified opportunities:
Improved employee communications -
Conducted fall and spring staff town hall meetings
Conducted bi-weekly direct report meetings
Conducted monthly one-on-one meetings with direct reports
Conducted quarterly meetings with departmental teams
Improved employee development -
Increased engagement of team members in decision making
Increased professional development availability leading to opportunities for future new responsibilities
Internal promotions and transfers
