A brief description of the methodology used to complete the course inventory :
The Sustainability Course Inventory for ECU was updated by a student intern working for the University Sustainability Manager. She used the original keyword list that we used last time plus the keyword/phrase list developed by AASHE that is based on the UN SDGs. The course inventory was kept separated for undergrad versus graduate courses this time. Faculty were also asked to self-report courses that were sustainability focused or inclusive in order to capture additional courses that would not have been included by the keyword search.
The Sustainability Course Inventory for ECU was developed by a former faculty member named Eban Bean who has since taken a job and moved to Florida. The inventory was created using a list of key words that was originally put together by staff at UNC Chapel Hill and presented at the 2014 AASHE Conference. Using that list, as well as the criteria for identifying a sustainability course versus a course that includes sustainability, Dr. Bean developed the total course inventory and the sustainability course inventory for ECU based on the 2014-15 academic year.
