There are multiple courses offered by the ECU Lifelong Learning Program that are open to current and former non-academic staff. The sustainability-related courses from the Fall 2019 catalog include:

- Real Energy Savings
- Basics of Beekeeping
- ECU Sustainability Program
- Sustainability in Health Care
- Nature's Treasures at our Door Step
- Climate Change and Mass Biological Extinctions

A brief description of any external professional development and training opportunities in sustainability that are supported by the institution :
The University Sustainability Manager is funded to attend multiple training opportunities each year, including the annual AASHE Conference. In addition, other staff within Facilities, Dining, Parking, Transit, Grounds, and other Campus Living and Campus Operations units attend the Appalachian Energy Summit every summer and many also attend conferences with sustainability tracks in their own fields of practice.

There are only a handful of positions (e.g. sustainability manager, director of facilities, energy manager, bikeshare coordinator, recycling coordinator, and grounds and utility shop supervisors) that have sustainability metrics in the annual performance reviews.
