The ECU Sustainability Plan has an entire section dedicated to Campus Grounds. While the strategies proposed in this plan are not mandatory, the plan did get unanimous approval from the former Chancellor and his Executive Council when adopted in October 2018. Here are some examples of how the ECU Sustainability Plan addresses rainwater management:
Goal 2: Reduce reliance on potable water for irrigation and improve stormwater management.
Strategy 2.1: Install additional best management practices (BMPs) to
retain more stormwater and reduce runoff over the next five
years (2019-2023)
Strategy 2.3: Develop a rainwater management plan
Strategy 2.4: Strategically increase the number of IQ irrigation systems
on all campuses to reach 50 percent coverage area over the
next five years (2019-2023)
Strategy 2.5: Renovate existing parking spaces on campus using
sustainable materials and/or practices over the next five years
(2019-2023)
We are also in the process of updating our Construction Standards for the University and we will be creating standards for Stormwater Mitigation and Sediment and Erosion Control.
