ECU:
The Office for Equity and Diversity (OED) provides leadership in the university's efforts to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.
OED promotes a diverse, respectful and inclusive environment for the university community through educational programming, training and seminars. The Office promotes equity in university-wide educational opportunities, programming and employment in order to sustain a diverse and inclusive learning, living and working environment.
The scope of the Office for Equity and Diversity encompasses institutional equity and diversity functions involving education, intervention, compliance, consulting, programming, outreach and assessment. Institutional practices, in support of the principles of diversity and equity, are monitored in this office. Our goal is that the guiding principles of equity and diversity are applied and assessed institutionally pertaining to administration, academics, budgets and strategy.
East Carolina University has received the Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award for eight consecutive years. This national honor distinguishes the university as an institution that demonstrates an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Brody School of Medicine:
Consistent with the Brody School of Medicine's mission of diversity, the Office of Diversity Affairs at BSOM was established with the mission to enhance awareness and knowledge of diversity and to act as an advocate and resource for students, residents, faculty, staff, and administration at the Brody School of Medicine. It seeks to create and maintain an environment friendly to all members of the BSOM community, thereby eliminating unnecessary barriers to learning and productivity. Diversity is a resource BSOM takes advantage of as it produces excellent physicians and provides excellent medical care.
