PEACE (Peer Educators Advocating for Campus Empowerment) Program

A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
PEACE aims to advance the personal growth and intellectual development of all students. Through peer-to-peer interaction and bystander intervention strategies, student peer educators dialogue with and guide students through meaningful learning. PEACE offers opportunities for students to grow and translate awareness to action – changing the culture through peaceful disruption and education. PEACE also educates students on the intersections of sustainability and social issues and how students can impact change in these areas.

The Arthur L. Johnson Unity Wing champions creating an inclusive community at Eastern and utilize PEACE to build connection with First Year students.

FYI (First Year Introduction) 100 Peer Mentoring Program

A brief description of the student educators program (2nd program):
Peer Mentors assist FYI 100 faculty within their course and serve as advocates for the needs, interests, and rights of first-year students. Peer Mentors are involved in many aspects of FYI 100 (First Year Introduction) course instruction, which may include syllabus planning, facilitating class discussions, and spending out-of-class time with students. The peer mentor role focuses on teaching first-year students about Eastern's resources, helping students to connect with groups on campus, and guiding discussions on college survival skills such as time management, advising, registration, and financial literacy, while also preparing students to be sustainable citizens by discussing ethical, social, and environmental issues.

FYI 100 course topics cover environmental, social, and economic sustainability. Some courses for fall 2022 include Antiracism & Social Justice, Ethics of Virtual Worlds, Exile in the Global Age, Living in a Diverse World, Our Parks Along the Trail, and Sex, Social Justice, & Spoken Word. The Wellness Warriors Program was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which is why there is currently no link to a specific Wellness Warriors webpage. Efforts are underway to reevaluate and assess the program mission before being restarted. The Wellness Warrior program may reemerge with a new mission but will continue to remain a resource for peer mentoring.
