Part 1

Support for Low-Income Students

Does the institution have policies and programs to make it accessible and affordable to low-income students?:
Yes

None
A brief description of any policies and programs to minimize the cost of attendance for low-income students:
TRiO Student Success works to provide holistic support that empowers our students to persist and graduate at greater rate than those who don’t use our services. Services are targeted to serve and assist students who are low-income, first-generation, and/or those with documented disabilities to achieve graduation with their Bachelor’s Degree. TRiO Student Success provides one-on-one support services from the day a student enters the program until graduation. http://www.evergreen.edu/trio

A brief description of the institution’s programs to guide and prepare students and families from low-income backgrounds for higher education:
Upward Bound is The Evergreen State College's high school outreach program. The program's goals are that all of our students will graduate high school, attend college and graduate with a bachelor’s degree and minimal debt within 6 years. All students are either low income or committed to being the first in their family to graduate from college, and over 80% are both.

None
A brief description of the institution's scholarships for low-income students:
Two scholarships are offered for several TRiO-eligible students (first in their family to pursue a bachelor’s, low income and/or have a documented disability) who will be new or currently enrolled in Evergreen’s TRiO Student Success program, who have previously been affiliated with TRiO (i.e. Upward Bound, Talent Search, TRiO SSS at another institution), and/or who have taken one of Evergreen’s TRiO classes. Applicants must join the TRiO Student Success program if awarded. Preference will be given to applicants with financial need. https://www.evergreen.edu/scholarships/all

Support for Non-Traditional Students

Does the institution have policies and programs to support non-traditional students?:
Yes

A brief description of the institution’s scholarships provided specifically for part-time students:
---

A brief description of the institution’s on-site child care facility, partnership with a local facility, and/or subsidies or financial support to help meet the child care needs of students:
The Children’s Center is funded through parent tuition, student activities fees subsidies, in-kind donations from the college and grants from agencies such as the United States Department of Agriculture. Parent Tuition Student parents pay based on an income-based sliding scale and faculty/staff parents pay a flat rate. Student Activities fee subsidies Student Activities fees subsidies comprise about half of the Center's operating budget. People sometimes ask why, in terms of our waiting list, we prioritize student families over staff and faculty, since the staff and faculty families pay a higher rate. It is because of the Student Activities subsidy. A student is defined as someone taking 4 undergraduate or 2 graduate credits and paying the related (i.e., Student Activities) fees. Faculty and staff pay the base rate for service; current enrolled Evergreen students receive a lower rate, subsidized by S&A fees. In-Kind donations from the college The college provides support through services such as human resources, facilities repairs and custodial, etc. Grants from agencies such as the United States' Department of Agriculture (USDA) Because a high percentage of the children enrolled come from families considered low income, the USDA food program partially subsidizes the cost of the meals we provide. http://www.evergreen.edu/childrenscenter

A brief description of the institution’s other policies and programs to support non-traditional students:
Tribal: Reservation-Based Community Determined Program The Evergreen State College and Grays Harbor College collaborate to provide a Bachelor of Arts degree on various Indian reservations in western Washington. Designed for place-bound students deeply connected to tribal communities, the program has been “reservation based” from the beginning with classes held on Indian reservations in western Washington. “Community determined” means that the program is initiated at the tribes’ request, that a tribal advisory board provides curricular direction, and that program content addresses significant community issues and utilizes community resources. Students attend weekly classes at the reservation sites and also attend Saturday classes at the Longhouse where all students come together for classes, workshops and cultural events. Hundreds of students have earned their degrees through the reservation-based programs and gone on to graduate school and various positions in tribal government, social services, education, and other fields. The Grays Harbor College Reservation Based AA Degree Bridge program Serves students with less than 90 college credits who live or work on a reservation or have social or cultural ties to tribal communities. Students attend online classes designed for a high degree of cultural relevance. Students attend class two nights a week at Muckleshoot, Nisqually, Quinault, Peninsula, Port Gamble and Tulalip. Makah, Lower Elwha, and Skokomish can be reactivated contingent on student enrollment. Students also attend class four Saturdays per quarter at the Longhouse on the Evergreen campus, with the Evergreen students. Students work toward a direct transfer Associate of Arts Degree. The Evergreen State College Reservation Based Community Determined program Serves students with 90 or more college credits who live or work on a reservation or have social or cultural ties to tribal communities. Students attend class two nights a week at Muckleshoot, Nisqually, Quinault and Tulalip. Makah, Lower Elwha, Port Gamble, and Skokomish can be reactivated contingent on student enrollment. Students also attend class four Saturdays per quarter at the Longhouse on the Evergreen campus. Students work toward a Bachelor of Arts degree.
