A brief description of the institution’s formal participatory or shared governance bodies:
Geoduck Student Union - The Geoduck Union is the official representation of the student body at The Evergreen State College. The Union is committed to unifying students across all Evergreen campuses, serving their interests at the local, state, and national levels and empowering all students to participate in positive social and political chance while fostering a fair and diverse community. The Union works to improve student quality of life by advocating for students' rights and needs, facilitating communication among students, and ensuring a fair balance of power among faculty, staff, administration and students.
College Faculty meet regularly each quarter with senior administrative staff, coordinated by the Agenda Committee, to engage with each other and administrative staff on operational decisions.
Academic and non-academic staff are represented by four different collective bargaining unions. More information is available here: https://www.evergreen.edu/humanresources/union-contracts
The College's normal operating protocols require that all committees - including planning, hiring, and operations - include staff, faculty, and student representation.

The Board of Trustees directs Evergreen into the future, initiates policy and delegates authority to the president, who reports to the Board. The Board of Trustees meetings are open to the public. The Governor of Washington appoints seven of the members from the external community and alumni, and the eighth member is a student chosen by the governor from a group of nominees selected by campus peers.
