Furman is committed to providing sustainability programming and bringing high-profile speakers and events to advance awareness of sustainability on campus.
In the past several years, some examples include:
-Keynote address by Former EPA Administrator and Governor of New Jersey Christine Todd Whitman
-A panel discussion, "Greening Our World," moderated by Andy Revkin of the New York Times and featuring Former EPA Administrator and Governor of New Jersey Christine Todd Whitman, Furman President David Shi, College of the Atlantic President David Hales, Columbia University AVP Environmental Stewardship Nilda Mesa, and VP of Sustainability Strategy and Diversity for Interface America George Bandy.
-Address by Dr. Vera Cole, an expert on renewable energy
-Address by John de Graaf, editor of Take Back Your Time and co-author of Affluenza
Upcoming events include:
-Furman's Year of Global Citizenship is ongoing during the 2010-2011 academic year; as part of this event, a student-oriented conference on food systems will be held in March 2011
-A sustainability speaker series funded by the Arthur Vinings Davis Foundation will take place in Spring 2011 and the 2011-2012 academic year.
