A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome :
In spring 2012, Furman launched its Businesses Engaged in Sustainability for Tomorrow (BEST) program in conjunction with a grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation. The BEST program is designed to help businesses and organizations lower their energy, water and waste management costs. Each business or company takes part in an online self-assessment, whose results determine a unique plan for the business, drawn from a database of recommendations. Through this assessment and plan-creation process, BEST identifies areas of savings that will positively impact businesses and organizations bottom-line while simultaneously improving the Greenville community. As a growing partnership between Furman and the state of South Carolina, BEST commits to encourage the economic growth that is critical to the state, realizing that this economic growth is built on better business.
