Any Furman Faculty or Staff that are first-generation college graduates are provided a "first generation" t-shirt and encouraged to wear them on the same day to show solidarity and support for our first-generation students.

Bridges to a Brighter Future is a nationally awarded comprehensive college access program for Greenville County, South Carolina high school and college students whose potential outdistances their circumstances. The program’s ambitious mission is to break the cycle of poverty and low-educational attainment by equipping students with the tools and support needed to graduate from high school, and enroll and graduate from college. Bridges to a Brighter Future accomplishes its mission by engaging students in an intensive seven-year program beginning after ninth grade and ending at college graduation. It is a comprehensive program that transforms students’ lives by building academic success, self-confidence, resiliency, leadership, and character.
