A brief description of the institution's initiatives to shift individual attitudes and practices in regard to energy efficiency:
We are drafting a temperature set point policy now (2020)
A brief description of energy use standards and controls employed by the institution:
Some buildings are controlled by a Building Automation System
A brief description of Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting and other energy-efficient lighting strategies employed by the institution:
LED lighting is being installed systematically across campus
A brief description of passive solar heating, geothermal systems, and related strategies employed by the institution:
The Shi Institute for Sustainable Communities and Hipp Hall both utilize passive solar heating. A ground-source geothermal system was installed in North Village, our junior/senior apartment complex, in 2013. The system includes 24 heat pumps and 20 wells for each apartment building. Each well is 517 feet deep. https://news.furman.edu/2013/01/18/north-village-geothermal-project-nearly-complete/
