A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability, including the issues, legislation, and ordinances for or against which the institution has advocated:
George Mason University has engaged in public policy in the past few years in both direct and indirect ways. Recently Mason assisted the School of Public Policy by coordinating with the Secretary of Natural Resources to speak at the launch of the Institute for Sustainable Earth on May 19th as well as having Deputy Secretary of Natural Resources Evan Feinman serve on a panel discussion.
Mason is also involved in supporting programs that fund environmental research such as NOAA Climate research, NSF climate research, Dept. of Energy climate research. It has been active in the Clinton Global Initiative, which advances sustainable concepts across the country.
Locally, Mason is very involved with sustainable transportation options in the City of Fairfax and Fairfax County. The university actively advocates for and collaborates on sustainable transportation options such as the Mason to Metro Bicycle route and Bus transportation studies.
