Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Well-Being Assessment with the Gallup Organization

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
One of the goals in George Mason University's Strategic Plan is to become a model Well-Being University that allows all of its members to thrive. Mason relies on cutting edge research to identify best practices and to develop metrics to help us deliver on that goal. Mason partnered with the Gallup Organization to regularly measure and track its progress to that goal, starting with our students and alumni. The Gallup-Mason Student Well-Being Survey measures how undergraduate students are thriving across five domains--purpose, financial, community, physical, and social. It provides invaluable data to a network of administrators, faculty, staff, and peer leaders who are working to help students succeed and to help Mason become a model well-being university. One outcome of the assessment was that the Gallup Organization found that students who understood and used their strengths on a daily basis strongly correlated with well-being. As such, Mason provided a free strengths assessment to every member of the Mason community, created a Strengths Academy of trained strengths facilitators, and created a Well-Being student team to follow a peer education model. By fall of 2016, over 10,000 students and employees had completed the strengths assessment.
