A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation:
Mason currently covers a number of sustainability topics in new employee orientation including flexible work options such as telework, commuter choice (up to $300 for full-time employees who utilize public transportation to get to work), Mason’s bicycle commuter program (providing various financial incentives based on # of rides per quarter), alternate modes of transportation (shuttles, car pooling, van pooling, zimride, and ZipCars), and how to find rideshare/commute partners via MasonCommutes.com.
The orientation also covers Mason's core value of being "careful stewards" to economic and natural resources, and promoting good environmental stewardship. Moreover, the School Assistance and Volunteer Service Leave initiative is discussed, noting that employees may use this time to volunteer at Mason's on campus gardens.
