A brief description of the formal sustainability course designation program:
George Mason University offers a Green Leaf programs and courses to all undergraduate and graduate students, designating over 125 Green Leaf courses and 25 Green Leaf academic programs. Courses can be searched in the online course catalog and are identified as Green Leaf focused or Green Leaf related.
A green leaf course or academic program focuses on learning about sustainability, or meeting our present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

All faculty have the opportunity to propose additional green leaf courses and academic program. Proposals are approved by the Coordinator of Sustainability Initiatives from the Office of the Provost, in addition to the Sustainability Studies Academic Council, which consists of various colleges and schools in the university.
