A brief description of the institution’s formal participatory or shared governance bodies:
From the Student Senate Constitution.
Section 1. The membership of the Senate shall consist of the following components:
A. Senators shall be the twelve upper-class students, four per class, and eight first-year students elected in a general election to represent the student body. In addition, three upper-class alternates and one first-year alternate shall be elected if adequate interest is shown in the position.
B. Representatives shall be the one student from each active student organization recognized and approved by the administration. In addition, each organization will appoint one designated alternate.
C. The Executive Board composed of the President, Vice President of Membership and Student Organizations, Vice President of Finance, Secretary, Communications Chair, and Senator-At-Large.


Faculty Steering Committee
From the Faculty Manual
Purpose: The Faculty Steering Committee oversees and coordinates the work of faculty committees. The Committee establishes the agendas for the monthly Faculty Meetings and coordinates the monthly Faculty Forums.

Membership:

• Six (6) elected faculty (at least one from each division, no more than two from any division). Faculty serve three-year terms.

• Dean of Academic Affairs ex-officio


Responsibilities: In consultation with the President and the Dean of Academic Affairs, the Committee establishes the agenda for Faculty Meetings and coordinates the Faculty Forums. The Committee conducts elections for appropriate committees and recommends to the President faculty members for appointive committee positions. The Steering Committee coordinates the work of the standing committees and individual members of the Steering Committee serve as liaisons with specific committees. When necessary, the Committee creates ad hoc task forces of faculty and assigns faculty from the standby pool to standing committees or task forces. The Committee makes recommendations to the President and Vice President of Academic Affairs for appointments to search committees. The Committee consults on a regular and ongoing basis with the Administration on a wide variety of institutional issues. The Committee in consultation with faculty members, committees, and the Administration identifies needs and issues and brings them to the attention of individual committees and the campus community.

The Town/Gown Committee has as its charge to hold listening sessions with the community to understand current problems and explore ways it might partner with the Town of Hanover, City of Madison, and Jefferson County. It makes recommendations to the president and the Board of Trustees on "trustee-level action, including but not limited to institutional policies, financial priorities, land use plans, and community partnerships in support of the College's mission and strategic plans." (That last bit is directly from the committee charge.)
