A brief description of how the literacy assessment was developed and/or when it was adopted:
The Sustainability Office (SO) seeks to answer the question, “How is the university progressing in teaching its students to the HSU Student Learning Outcome (SLO) that states: HSU graduates will be prepared to pursue social justice, promote environmental responsibility, and improve economic conditions in their workplaces and communities?” To get to this answer, the SO proposes to release a survey asking HSU students a series of multiple choice questions designed to identify students’ grasp of broad sustainability concepts and their attitudes towards local as well as global issues. To this end, in September 2016 the SO convened a working group to assist with developing questions for the questionnaire. Faculty members helped develop questions for this survey.
The survey will be sent out to all undergraduate and graduate students via Humboldt State email, by the Office of Institutional Effectiveness (IE). IE will facilitate the process of sending out the survey (including the standard invitation for addressees to participate in the survey) and gathering responses. The assessment is scheduled to go out for the first time on April 1, 2017 via email and the response window will close on April 14, with results compiled by May 3. IE will administer the survey.
A brief description of how a representative sample was reached (if applicable) and how the assessment(s) were administered :
The survey will be emailed to all current undergraduate and graduate students who may submit a response to survey questions on a voluntary basis.
A brief summary of results from the literacy assessment(s), including a description of any measurable changes over time:
It is anticipated that the first round of assessment results will be compiled by May 3, 2017. At the time that this report was compiled, results had not yet been assembled.
