There are bike racks for approximately 952 bicycles to serve the entire campus. Additionally, campus residents have access to secure bike storage rooms and bike racks outside of their residence halls. The main commons building also hosts wall-mounted, weather protected bike racks.

Mass Transit Programs

A brief description of the mass transit programs:
The University's Jack Pass program, implemented in 2007, encourages mass transit and reduced fuel consumption by enabling students, faculty, and staff to travel on Humboldt County bus systems. During the Fall and Spring semesters, all HSU students have free unlimited ride access on Redwood Transit System buses buses, which serve the Route 101 corridor from Trinidad to Scotia, including Valley East and Valley West in Arcata, Eureka Transit System buses, which serve the city of Eureka, and Arcata & Mad River Transit System, which serves the Arcata area. Staff, faculty, and Extended Education participants are also granted the same level of access for $60 semester. During the summer session, there is a small fee of $45 to use Jack Pass. The Jack Pass program has seen a continual increase in overall ridership. In the 2014-15 fiscal year (last full year of data) total number of Jack Pass rides nearly reached 390,000.

Carpool/Vanpool Programs

Each day that a driver has 3 or more people in their car (2 if that is the car's maximum capacity), they may stop by the drive-up window at the Parking & Commuter Services booth near Gist Hall to show their HSU General or Staff parking permit and receive a Carpool Preferential Parking Permit for the day. These Preferential Permits allow drivers to park in spaces nearer to the core of campus at no additional cost.
In 2013 HSU partnered with Zimride, an online ridesharing service that connects drivers and passengers for local or long-distance trips. HSU students, faculty and staff may use Zimride.

In 2011 HSU launched a partnership with Zipcar, a car-sharing program. Zipcar gives students, faculty and staff self-service access to four cars (two are parked in the core of campus, two are parked in the residence hall complex area). HSU continues to experience an increase in memberships and Zipcar use.
