A brief description or a copy of the institution’s policy regarding interdisciplinary research:
ISU encourages and rewards interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research. It has a long-standing culture of collaboration among researchers in different disciplines, and, especially in recent years, internal funding opportunities designed specifically to foster the formation of transdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research teams.
ISU’s promotion and tenure policy recognizes and acknowledges the value of interdisciplinary research. Specifically, it states that “significant advances sometimes accrue when a scholar extends her or his scope of topics beyond those traditional to a particular discipline” and “scholarship often requires teamwork and other collaborative relationships, particularly because of the growth of interdisciplinary and collaborative programs.”
In response to a recent survey, 94% of departments (33 of 35 respondents) indicated that they give positive recognition for interdisciplinary research in promotion and tenure decisions.
