A brief description of the sustainability trainings and professional development opportunities available to staff :
Iowa State University organizes an annual Symposium on Sustainability, which provides sustainability training and professional development to the entire university community, including staff. Coordinated by Iowa State University's Live Green! Initiative, the Symposium calls all students, faculty, and staff to action to be fully committed to and engaged in ensuring a sustainable future through their actions and decisions regarding the campus, its operations, and initiatives. The 2013 Symposium on Sustainability featured information sessions covering projects and initiatives taking place in campus operations and management, as well expanding and diversifying sustainability experiences offered to students. The Live Green! Initiative, in partnership with the ISU Council on Sustainability, also organizes an annual series called, “Dialogs on Sustainability.” The series is offered once per year with different topics during each session. 2012 was the inaugural year of the series, which included one discussion. Attendees had the opportunity to take part in a facilitated discussion regarding options that can be used by the campus community to reduce the university’s research-related energy footprint.
