While ISU does not have a policy that requires open access publication, all faculty are encouraged to do so. In supporting this, Publication Subvention Program supports costs associated with open access publication. Similarly, in relation to sharing of research, ISU DataShare is a platform provided by the university to facilitate; however, no requirement is in place.

APC fund

A brief description of the open access APC fund:
Iowa State has two different programs for covering APC charges for its employees and students. First, ISU Library has several read-and-publish agreements with scholarly publishers where the library covers the APC. The only criteria for the majority of the agreements is that the corresponding author must have a current affiliation with the university. Second, the VP of Research Office has a Publication Subvention Grant that can cover up to $1,250 USD of a publication charge such as an APC. These grants are restricted to faculty and staff who are eligible for PI status.

The Iowa State University Digital Press provides platforms, tools, and support to enable authors to publish original open access books, journals, and conference proceedings. The Digital Press aims to facilitate access to knowledge through open access publishing and promotion; publish quality scholarship in disciplines represented at Iowa State University; and diversity the voices, identities, and perspectives represented in the scholarly record.
