A brief description of the sustainable operations and maintenance policy/program and/or O+M rating system(s) used:
Iowa State's sustainable operations and maintenance program is three-fold:
Energy Management - an online energy efficiency portal details benchmarking information for utility services of all campus properties/buildings. Monthly building consumption benchmarking graphs are generated and compared to trendlines for both three-year averages, as well as a 15% below a three-year running average. The benchmarking tool also allows for comparison among like building types(e.g. academic, scientific, administrative). In addition, the portal provides a searchable database detailing the Energy Management Plan for each campus building.
Green Cleaning - All space at Iowa State University is maintained through Green Cleaning protocol. Cleaning products contracts are issued through the Iowa State Procurement Department based on criteria provided by FP&M Custodial Services. Contracts are evaluated using the criteria to ensure that >90% of all the products used in daily routine green cleaning guidelines meet green certification standards.
Indoor Air Quality - Operations within all building spaces ensure indoor air quality as outlined with ASHRAE 62-2007. This is achieved through Monitoring and avoiding indoor air quality problems during renovation, demolition, and construction activities; providing occupants with operational control of lighting and HVAC systems whenever possible; and producing environments that enhance human comfort, well-being, performance, and productivity by reducing absenteeism and increasing employee satisfaction.
