A brief description of the enterprise:
The Organic Growers of Ithaca College is a student-run organization that maintains the community garden and a unique CSA program. This program allows faculty and other community members to purchase a large share of crops in exchange for a reasonable amount of money and some volunteer hours. The group has experimented with many aspects of sustainable gardening and farming including: permaculture design, crop rotation, companion planting, four-season food production, and heirloom seed saving. The Organic Growers organize workshops and "harvest dinners" along with other special events for club members and volunteers.
The organization recently expanded with 32 black locust raised beds all constructed by club members and volunteers last spring. With the business rapidly growing, they've established executive positions which include: Garden Managers, Garden Apprentices, the Community Coordinator, an Educational Coordinator, the Finance Manager, and Marketing Coordinator. Together, the Organic Growers interact with peers of varying interests and connect peers with the land and food that sustain us.
