A brief description of the program:
The Purchasing Policy states that: "Positive efforts will be made to utilize small business and minority-owned business sources of supplies and services. The Ithaca College purchasing office will actively solicit such special category suppliers and provide them with equal opportunity to qualify as a competitive, responsible contractor."
Many of these small business are local businesses.
Ithaca College also collaborated in the development of the Finger Lakes Buy Green website, which showcases local sources of sustainable products. http://www.fingerlakesbuygreen.org/
Ithaca College also participates in the Finger Lakes Environmental Preferred Procurement Consortium, which has a stated consortium goal to develop local sources of supply of more sustainable products.
