Course Inventory

A brief description of the methodology used to determine the total number of courses offered and to identify sustainability course offerings, including the definitions used and the process for reviewing and/or validating the course inventory :
The Office of Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability conducted a search of the course descriptions in the 2015-2016 undergraduate course catalog and the 2015-2016 graduate course catalog. Courses that met the credit's definitions and/or matched examples of courses in the STARS Technical Manual were identified. The only courses further categorized as sustainability courses were those where the course catalog description clearly indicated the course was sustainability focused. The ISNW Education and Scholarship Engagement Subcommittee and an ISNW Executive Council member both reviewed the final course list for errors. Additional courses were identified to be considered for inclusion in the future.
The list of courses was compared to actual course offerings, and those courses that were not offered in 2015-2016 were not counted. Courses excluded from the numerator were independent study, practicum, internship, clinical, special topics or thesis/dissertation as well as performance arts and physical education. The denominator (the total number of courses) was provided by the Office of Institutional Research with an attempt to exclude these same courses.
How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
Each course was counted as a single course regardless of the number of offerings or sections
