A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting, including the timeframe for when the analysis was conducted and how a representative sample was reached, if applicable:
A survey was conducted to gather data covering the student housing domicile locations and transportation mode split. All enrolled JMU students were sent the Qualitrics survey link during Fall of 2016. The request to participate in the survey was distributed through bulk email. The number of responses varied by question with most questions receiving at least 1344 responses. For a population of 23,354 students (consistent with demographics reported in IC-3 of this report), confidence level of 99%, and margin of error of 5%, 648 responses were needed. The ISNW Campus Accessibility Committee reviewed the methodology and results for use in this credit.
