A brief description of the bicycle and pedestrian plan or policy:
The Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan was structured around the 5E's promoted by the American Bicycle Institute. The Plan includes short-term, medium-term, and long-term infrastructure investments, and Educational and Encouragement programs. The Plan was developed in 2014 and since then the University has invested more than $1.9 million in infrastructure.

Yes

A brief description of the bicycle sharing program:
Our UREC department has a Bicycle Adventure program for renting bikes on a weekly basis. In addition, we just implemented the Baas Bikes cycle share program for the University. Baas Bikes has provided 60 bikes to date.

Mass Transit Programs 

Does the institution offer free or reduced price transit passes and/or operate a free campus shuttle for commuters?:
Yes

A brief description of the mass transit programs:
Our transit system handles more than 2.4 million riders annually. The riders do not need to pay a fare or display an ID. However, the cost of transit is included in the student fees. We contract with the City of Harrisonburg for our transit services and therefore are the recipients of the FTA and VA Commonwealth subsidies.

Yes

Our GRH program is administered by our local PDC and is available to everyone.

Carpool/Vanpool Programs

Yes

A brief description of the carpool/vanpool program:
We have a contract with Enterprise for vanpool. We also use Zimride for ridesharing which has been very successful. Currently we do not discount parking for these services, although we do have a parking discount for carpool.

We offer one, Level 2 recharging station accessible to employees. We are looking into expanding this for both students and employees.

A brief description of the condensed work week option:
The institution offers a policy that includes a variety of alternative work scheduling options. Employees take advantage of this policy whenever possible. Summer hours are abbreviated and many employees condense their hours and work four 10-hour days vs. five 8-hour days during summer months. Does the institution employ other strategies to reduce the impact of commuting (e.g. preferred parking for fuel-efficient vehicles, cash-out of parking programs)?:
Yes

A brief description of other strategies to reduce the impact of commuting:
The university offers carpool permits to faculty, staff and students. These permits are shared by two to three carpool participants and afford the same privileges as a conventional faculty/staff or commuter permit. Since the cost of a carpool permit is shared by the users, the cost to each carpool participant is reduced. The university offers remote parking to faculty, staff and students at one-third the cost of a conventional faculty/staff or student permit. The remote permits give access to a single parking lot on the periphery of the campus that includes convenient access to a nearby bus stop.
