A brief description of when and why the workplace health and safety baseline was adopted:
JCCC compares year-over-year changes in workplace injury and occupational disease cases. We do track historical levels of claims, but given that number of employees, specific employees, and types of employees change, we find that comparing to the previous year is the most useful.

A brief description of the institution’s workplace health and safety initiatives:
Health and safety initiatives are decentralized across campus. Respective departments are responsible for ensuring that their employees receive the appropriate and necessary safety orientation/training for their position. On a broader scale the college does provide all employees with a variety of general health and safety training/information on various topics. Some specific programs include the annual employee training modules that all employees are required to complete covering topics such as sexual harassment and information security; also, JCCC's Keeping Our People Safe (KOPS) program (http://www.jccc.edu/kops) helps to ensure that employees and students have a safe environment in which to work and learn. A variety of health and safety tools and resources are available to employees via the college’s intranet site. The college’s present work comp MOD factor of .56 is reflective of the safe work place environment our employees enjoy.
