Beginning in 2014, we conducted a qualitative evaluation of student understanding of sustainability on campus. Through an initial 37 question survey and a followup interview with different kinds of questions, we are able to better tell the stories of our students' involvement on campus.
Peer researchers collate and assess the survey results and then work as a team to transcribe and code interview responses.

A brief description of how representative samples were reached (if applicable) and how the cultural assessment is administered:
Evaluations are sent with one reminder to students in the Center for Student Involvement email list - those who are active in any campus club or organization and those who are student employees; to students who have expressed an interest in campus sustainability in the previous year, and to participants in select courses as a pre/post evaluation.
Interviews are conducted following brief instruction on the conduct of ethical research.

The group of students who see this evaluation twice (those in the honors class) indicate more comprehensive understanding of sustainability measures and how they apply to their lives.
