Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Sustainability Across the Curriculum Workshop
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
In May 2017, following an application and interview process, JCCC joined with KU as a Center for Curriculum Development, an AASHE project to encourage member institutions' regional outreach supporting development of sustainability-related curriculum across geographical, disciplinary, and institutional boundaries.
The JCCC/KU partnership focused on campus-as-living-lab strategies to help institutions stretch and save institutional dollars, instruction in teaching social justice, and strategies from successful faculty and students with experiences in sustainability-enhanced curriculum.
From the workshop's promotional information:
Day 1 Distance Option:
Rather than attend Day 1 of the workshop face-to-face, attendees who chose this option will participate in a series of three webinars covering the following topics: intersections for sustainability and social justice, the prairie bioregion, and using campus as a learning laboratory to stretch departmental budgets.
Day 1 In-Person Option:
For those who are traveling a greater distance or prefer to participate in the workshop face-to-face for both days. Day 1 will cover the same material as the webinars, led in person by experts and allowing for enhanced discussion. All participants will convene in person at the BEST Building on Day 2.
Day 2 On-site - All Participants:
All participating faculty will be guided through group work, discussion, and learning lab installation visits, with time to brainstorm and share feedback with faculty from their own or other institutions. Day 2 will also call on KU and JCCC faculty who have undergone their own sustainability curriculum integration. We will close with a panel discussion with students who have taken these enhanced classes.

The inaugural KU/JCCC "AASHE Center for Sustainability Across the Curriculum" welcomed faculty from three states and five institutions, and continues to yield both renewed interest and new course content from participants, as well as new interest in other sustainability-related JCCC/KU offerings from attendee institutions.
Both campuses hope to continue this intramural collaboration for at least the next two years with an offering in 2018 on the KU Lawrence campus, and in 2019 with an offering on the JCCC campus.
In both JCCC's and KU's cases, the AASHE Center for Sustainability Across the Curriculum expanded ongoing curriculum development work beyond either institution's typical practices through AASHE's backing of broader outreach, an experiential focus on campus as living lab, the hybridized format, and the popularity among university and community college practitioners. Additionally, the competitive nature of the selection process differentiates this particular offering from other intercampus collaborations by both institutions.
Which of the following impact areas does the innovation most closely relate to? (select up to three):
Curriculum
Campus Engagement
Diversity & Affordability
