The following language is included on all RFBs and RFPs: In support of the college’s signing of the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment, the college’s Procurement Services Office is dedicated to applying principles in all procurements to the maximum degree as practical in order to procure products and services that promote the minimization of environmental impact and the conservation of energy during the entire life cycle of products. The college will give favorable consideration to the procurement of products and services that support these aforementioned standards and that do not have negative residual impacts on the environment at the end of their useful lives. Favorable consideration will be given to those vendors who support these standards as well.

Share the responsibility with all College employees of identifying new and environmentally friendly products and services, using criteria established by widely recognized authorities (eco-labels such as Energy Star, EPEAT, Green Seal, Fair Trade, etc.), with the goal to eliminate carcinogens, mutagens, and teratogens;

The Campus Master Plan includes the following language regarding construction and renovation: JCCC has committed that all new campus buildings will be designed to meet LEED Silver certification guidelines. Sustainability will be demonstrated through energy-efficient building envelopes, intelligent HVAC systems, innovative wastewater treatment, and effective daylighting. Recognizing JCCC’s achievements in energy conservation through the Powerswitch project, the Master Plan advocates existing infrastructure upgrades focused on campus lighting, scheduling and controls, and HVAC systems.

Share the responsibility with all College employees of identifying new and environmentally friendly products and services, using criteria established by widely recognized authorities (eco-labels such as Energy Star, EPEAT, Green Seal, Fair Trade, etc.), with the goal to eliminate carcinogens, mutagens, and teratogens; 4. In an effort to preserve natural resources, strive to procure energy efficient equipment, water saving products, and seek alternative energy sources from reliable, certified alternative energy suppliers; 6. When feasible, work with suppliers in the areas of reduction/reuse/take-back of packaging materials, identify alternative methods of delivery, and specify take-back of obsolete products in solicitations; 8. Routinely evaluate replacement needs and waste management practices (recycling); encourage reuse of items within the College community; practice source reduction; manage surplus effectively; and provide consistent and relevant information and training for all staff.
