The Multicultural Council meets every other week and is made up of staff, students, and faculty who are selected both by self-interest and recommendation. Its brief encourages action on the following fronts: event and programming opportunities, passive and active co-curriculuar education opportunities, and training events such as The Diversity Fellowship Program.

A brief description of the institution’s cultural competence trainings and activities for each of the groups identified above:
JCCC provides and hosts a number of cultural events and programs that are open to various combinations of each of the groups listed above. Some examples are an annual Japanese Festival, PowWow, International Education events, Autism Conference, ESL & ASL programming, Spanish Immersion Retreat, Service Learning opportunities inside and outside of the classroom. The Leadership Institute and Leadership Alumni have diversity as a competency in the training program so this topic is covered in training, book discussions, speaker events and service learning projects. Staff Development also programs presentations that cover a variety of the topics under cultural competence, and includes instruction on diversity in new staff orientations. Students have the opportunity to participate in cultural competency activities and passive educational offerings as developed by the Center for Student Involvement, the Student Senate, and the Multicultural Programming Council.
