Yes

1st campaign

Name of the campaign:
Honors in Action Project: Materials Management

A brief description of the campaign:
JCCC's Phi Theta Kappa chapter conducted a semester-long campuswide project for their 5-Star Chapter designation. Their focus was two-fold: better understanding of campus recycling habits and reducing single-use coffee cup choice in campus coffee bars.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:
A pair of waste audits served as bookends for the project, and pre- and post-audit assessments for audit volunteers indicated an improved understanding of waste reduction, recycling behaviors, and consumers' roles in contributing to scholarship dollars on a campus where our recycling revenue goes to the Foundation.

if reporting an additional campaign, provide:

2nd campaign

Name of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Campuswide specialty recycling day

A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Beginning during the pandemic while campus was still mostly closed, the Center offered e-waste and metal waste recycling in a socially-distanced, drop-off format.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Sustainability interns, volunteers and zero waste staff coordinated and supported the event. A certified third-party contractor manages the e-waste and any associated fees, and the revenue generated by metal waste - several thousand dollars - goes to scholarships. Interns and volunteers learn more about the recyclability of materials while supporting the community and making it possible for more students to enroll in classes.

Optional Fields

A brief description of other sustainability-related outreach campaigns:
Since 2015, the Center for Sustainability has offered post-Halloween pumpkin drop off points to the campus community. Pumpkins are broken up and composted with our regular food waste.
